Youth Activities at Grace: January 2019
This month, we will reflect on and plan for youth ministry at Grace.
Youth are involved in our life together at Grace in many ways, including (but not limited to) our regular youth gatherings. When we meet on January 17, we'll take time to consider how we demonstrate our care for middle and high schoolers at Grace, and how we can plan to learn from, support, serve with, and walk alongside them.
Below you'll find more detail about a community conversation for youth, parents, and all members of the parish on January 17. Please plan to join in if you can, and please complete this youth survey beforehand.
If you have interest in playing or writing music with a youth or youth/adult ensemble in 2019, please contact Martin Cockroft, whose first Sunday as Grace's Music Director will be January 13.
With excitement for the adventure that 2019 will hold!

Youth gatherings in January
All are from 6-8 pm unless otherwise noted. Please contact Wren if you're interested in helping with a meal.
Join in a conversation about youth ministry at Grace with Wren Blessing and Kim Cockroft, Minister for Faith Formation. We will share dinner at 6 pm then begin our discussion at 6:30, considering:
- What Grace has done well with youth ministry in the past that we’d like to continue
- Plans for 2019 (including regular gatherings for youth, confirmation, service opportunities, and summer programs such as Grace Camp, pilgrimage, and Resurrección)
- Parent involvement and programs serving/supporting parents of youth
Parishioners of all ages are invited to join in this conversation, including youth, soon-to-be-youth, and any interested adults.
RSVP to [email protected].
Between now and the 17th, please also share your reflections and hopes on this youth survey.
Film & Faith Series Launch: The Hate U Give, 6-8:30 pm
Nicole Chilivis and Kim Cockroft invite teens and their favorite adults to attend the launch of Grace’s Film & Faith series, which will screen thought-provoking, important films followed by teen-driven discussions. Our first film is The Hate U Give, which was released to critical acclaim last October.
Common Sense Media recommends the film for ages 12 and up and writes that “Families who watch will have plenty of big issues to discuss afterward." USA Today calls it "one of the rare important teen films that everybody needs to watch." Questions or concerns? Contact Minister for Faith Formation Kim Cockroft.
Next month Grace will welcome Cheryl Nuñez, experienced community organizer and equity consultant, to present and facilitate a discussion on "Race and Equity in America." Cheryl currently serves Olympic College as Vice President for Equity and Inclusion. Dates and details are TBA, so stay tuned.
Sunday lunches for high school Juniors & Seniors
Starting in January, join Wren and some other adult guests for lunch on the first Sunday of each month (except April).
Meet at noon at Casa Luna in Poulsbo (18830 Front St. NE), or gather in a car departing Grace at 11:45.
Gathering location to be announced. Contact Wren if you plan to join in.
