Welcoming our Next Rector
The Vestry is delighted and thrilled to announce that Grace has called The Reverend Canon Wren Blessing to be our new Rector with unanimous and enthusiastic votes from both the Call Committee and the Vestry. Please read her letter of introduction below and prepare to welcome Wren and her family in late February or March.
This Advent and the months preceding it have been for me a season of impossible, determined hope. As I’ve prayed about the next steps in my life as a priest and parent, and as I have imagined ministry in community, your search committee has planned, imagined, worked, and prayed to know the hope to which God is calling you (Eph 1.18). I was surprised and grateful to learn that your vestry has asked me to serve as your next Rector. On this fourth day of Christmas, I receive that invitation as an unexpected gift, one opening out of the hope that has grown within you and me over the last six months.
There is much about our life together that we do not yet know. We do know that we share a common hope in Christ. I am delighted to anticipate opportunities to come to know you, to pray with and for you. I am eager to hear about where you come from, and how you long to find your ways forward. It will be an honor to celebrate the sacraments in your midst. I can’t wait to ride my bike around Bainbridge Island, to explore the shoreline and forests bursting with diversity of life. I am excited to spend time reading with, wondering with, serving with, playing alongside the children, youth, and adults of Grace Church.
I come to you having served in English and Spanish language parish settings in Durham and Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Currently, I am a Canon to the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Montana in Helena, where I support parishes in their ministries of formation and service, and direct our camp and retreat on Flathead Lake. My sons Isaac (8), and Elijah (6), will move with me to Kitsap County in February or March of 2018. Until that time, I hold you in my daily prayers and ask your prayers for my family as we prepare for this new beginning. “May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing through the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15.13).
With gratitude and great anticipation,
The Rev. Wren Blessing
