Dawn Chorus

Dawn Chorus

Sunday, April 6, 7 – 8 a.m.

Earth & Spirit will host our annual “Dawn Chorus” birdwatching at Grace, with veteran birder Demi Allen.

We will meet in the Grace parking lot, then quietly walk the Grace trails and listen for our feathered friends. All ages are welcome.

The most exuberant singing is often heard in spring when birds identify territories and mates. Come help us add some new species to the Grace bird list.

Demi will bring a spotting scope. Bring binoculars and a bird guide if you have them.

Beulah Downing encourages us to use Cornell’s Merlin bird ID app to identify birds we see or hear. Using it, she was able to identify the songs of a Spotted Towhee, Northern Flicker, Pine Siskin, Junco, Robin, and a Crow in the distance. “It was the loud call of the Flicker that got my attention, and then I began to hear more and more. A wonderful morning chorus!”

Grace Abides, Grace Evolves

Grace Abides, Grace Evolves

Continually reimagining who will come through the doors, loving our neighbors, and welcoming the stranger. This is Grace, where the ministers, all of us, make Grace happen for all who come, and all who are yet to come. A place where there’s room for everyone at the table.

The Growing Grace team has been looking for ways to be more welcoming and to better serve the community through improvements in our systems, practices, and physical spaces. Here are some examples:

Eyes open, Finding Grace: The Grace Episcopal Church sign on Day Road has received its Spring cleaning and encroaching plants trimmed for better visibility. Soon to come will be signage directing traffic past the Island School, all the way south to Grace Land.

Several guest parking spaces will be designated to welcome visitors.

In the Narthex, directional signs for the restrooms have been installed.

Say Hello, Hooray, and Welcome: We look forward to welcoming our new part-time Coordinator for Youth Ministry to assist us in developing youth programs. Details to follow soon.

Listen up: Within the year, a vastly improved sound system will improve the auditory experience for in-person and online participants.

Continually reimagining Grace. As we work to expand our membership and grow more deeply into who we are meant to be, Grace abides and Grace evolves. All shall be well. All is well. Thanks be to God.

For the Growing Grace team,

Julie Shryock

Interfaith Council Music Festival

The IFC Music Festival took place on Sunday, March 30, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Bainbridge Island.  A robust group of thirteen singers from Grace took part in the event. Twelve different faith communities presented songs, including Grace. The event was well-attended and was a joyful experience for all involved. A special thank you to the musicians from Grace who contributed their beautiful voices for the event!

Sunday's Guest Speaker

Last Sunday, in place of the homily at both services, Rev. Barbara Weza, Archdeacon for the Diocese of Olympia and Executive Director of Chaplains on the Harbor, spoke to us about this Grays Harbor organization, and what sustains her in her ministry.

Seeking host family

for French exchange student

Aspect Foundation, a nonprofit providing affordable study-abroad opportunities, seeks a Bainbridge Island family to host a 17-year-old girl named Tea who would like to be an exchange student for the upcoming 25/26 school year. This vetted family would be asked to give Tea a loving home with daily meals (school lunches excluded), a place to sleep/study, and make her feel part of the family. Tea would have her own spending money and medical insurance while she is on the program. Interested families, please contact Jodi Moore at 360-813-4999.
