Holy Week and Easter at Grace

Holy Week and Easter at Grace

Sunday of the Passion: Palm Sunday
March 29

Service at 8:00 a.m., and Procession of the Palms for all ages at 9:30.

Maundy Thursday
April 2

6:00 - 8:00 pm

The evening begins with an Agape Meal, followed by Holy Eucharist with foot washing, and Stripping of the Altar. Nursery will be available.

This service is specifically designed for families to experience the story together. We gather around a quiet table. We share a simple meal. There is something hopeful — and something uncertain — in the air as we hear Jesus say, “Love one another like this…”  Through the tender act of foot washing, children experience a powerful story of service and compassion.

Good Friday
April 3

Based on Healing the Heart of Democracy by Parker J. Palmer.
The program will include video interviews with the author.

This community dialogue welcomes people of diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and generations. We will engage conversations about politics in ways that serve the common good. In particular, we’ll explore 5 Habits of the Heart that we can practice in everyday settings in our families, neighborhoods, classrooms, congregations, and workplaces.

5 Habits of the Heart that make democracy possible:

  • An understanding that we are all in this together

  • An appreciation of the value of “otherness”

  • An ability to hold tension in life-giving ways

  • A sense of personal voice and agency

  • A capacity to create community

Rick Jackson, with Parker Palmer and his wife Marcy, is a Co-Founder and Senior Fellow of the Center for Courage & Renewal. He teaches, speaks, and consults with leaders, non-profit, and philanthropic organizations on a range of topics, including strategies to foster long-term civic renewal.

If you are new to Grace and curious about the Episcopal tradition, are a teenager or adult who wants to be confirmed, or if you’ve been around Grace a while and want a refresher, this is for you. It’s a new member's class, a confirmation class, and a spiritual repast combined.

We will meet in the Living Room from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Sundays through April 19.

For those who wish, we will travel together to St. Mark’s Cathedral on Saturday, April 25, to be confirmed by the Bishop.

The Gallery at Grace Features “Sewist” Susan Lick

The Gallery at Grace is currently hosting the work of a long-time member with her first-ever exhibit. That artist-in-our midst is none other than Susan Lick, and her show is entitled “Playful & Practical Fabric Creations.” In it Susan creatively collages textiles into everyday items like placemats and tote bags and then embellishes each with embroidery, buttons, lace, and beads resulting in striking one-of-a-kind pieces.

The Gallery is open M - F, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., Sundays until noon, and by appointment: gallery@gracehere.org. Bring a friend or out-of-town guest to see Grace and this beautiful gallery offering.

Songs of Compassion

The Agate Pass Threshold Choir invites you to an hour of simple melodies and heartfelt song on Sunday, April 19, at 3:00 p.m. Part of a worldwide community of nearly 200 Threshold Choir chapters, singers offer music that brings calm, comfort, and connection.

Step away from the troubles of the world as voices in harmony create space to pause, breathe, and replenish your spirit. Threshold singers also bring this same gentle presence to the bedside of those who are ill, in pain, or nearing the end of life.

This is a free event. Reception follows.

Dark Skies: Why it Matters

Dark Skies: Why it Matters

Every year, billions of birds migrate north in the spring and south in the fall, most of them flying at night, navigating by the night sky. However, as they pass over big cities, they can become disoriented by bright artificial lights and skyglow, often colliding with buildings or windows.

While lights can throw birds off their migration paths, fatalities are more directly caused by the energy birds waste flying around and calling out in confusion. The exhaustion can then leave them vulnerable.

Come find out more at this family-friendly event on Sunday, April 19, from 3-5 p.m. at the Village Green in Kingston.
