Faith Church Poulsbo Shower ProjectLearn More this Sunday Every Monday at 9 am, Faith Episcopal Church in Poulsbo opens its doors to welcome Kitsap County’s homeless. Guests are offered a shower, a wash of one load of laundry, and a hot lunch. Most stay until the doors close at 4 pm, sheltered from the rain and cold. The number served can vary, but now over 30 folks come each week. At least 12 volunteers are needed every Monday. The schedule is flexible. You can volunteer every week, once a month, or just fill in for a half or full day. Interested in learning more about the Faith Church Poulsbo Shower Project? The director, Sharon Clark, has sent out a call for more volunteers. She will be with us at Grace this Sunday, October 25, at 11:00 am in the Living Room. Find out how you can become involved. Questions? Email Kathy Deasy or call (928) 606-3410 . |

The Grace Solar Installation is Up and Running!
The Grace solar installation was connected to the PSE grid on October 16, and on October 17 we held a ribbon-cutting celebration in Walker Hall. It was a joyful occasion with attendees from Grace, other congregations and environmental groups, Senator Drew Hansen, and Representative Tarra Simmons. We celebrated a project that took three years from conception to completion and was funded by a grant from the Washington Department of Commerce with funds provided by the Climate Commitment Act.* Please thank the Grace Greening Team members who dedicated their time and unique talents to making all this possible – Dan Rohan, Jens Bömer, Terry Jones, Dave Haley, Robert Cromwell, Gary Lagerloef, Eric Matthews, Ruth Blaney. Here is a link where you can see how much power the system is producing. *The CCA supports Washington’s climate action efforts by putting cap-and-invest dollars to work reducing climate pollution, creating jobs, and improving public health. Information about the CCA is available at www.climate.wa.gov. — Marcy Lagerloef Here is a link to Rev. Eric’s words that were read at the event, since he was not able to attend. Music Makes Community
This weekend I attended an evening community sing and a one-day Music Makes Community workshop in St. Paul, MN. Like here, the leaves in Minnesota are ablaze with color, and they just had their first frost of the season on Saturday. The Music Makes Community Executive Director, Conie, ran the workshop, co-led by Rev. Kerri, an Episcopal priest with an agricultural ministry in the small town of Hutchinson, MN. These singing events were experiential in nature — you learn how to lead the singing of “paperless” songs (songs in the oral tradition) by first experiencing them as a group. The evening sing and workshop were meditative and prayerful, seamlessly incorporating scripture and prayer in and among songs that moved the heart. This is the second MMC workshop that I have attended, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to further hone my skills as a song leader. I look forward to sharing with you many of the new songs that I took away from the workshop. — Kim Thompson, Grace Music Director |

Souls to the Polls
The Grace Souls to the Polls drive will continue through Election Day, November 3. A number of Grace members have volunteered to drive people to the drop box on Madison on Bainbridge. If you need transportation to the drop box, or know someone who does, contact Jane Crane, Norm Bruce, Kathy Gillogley, Rachel Yobs, Molly Ryan, Liz Shaw, or Petra Velie. Civil engagement is a key way that we in the Christian community live out our faith. Rides are not restricted to members of Grace. We can also collect ballots from voters who have mobility issues. For questions or to volunteer, please email Scott Deasy or call him at (928) 606-2098. (And please make sure to sign your ballot.) |
Help Choose This Year’s Grace Men’s Group Chili MasterWednesday, November 4, 6:30–8:30 pm Five chili chefs have already entered this year’s cook-off, and 11 men have signed up to attend. Join us for an evening of great food, fellowship, and friendly competition as we sample some outstanding chili and vote by secret ballot to determine this year’s Grace Men’s Group Chili Master. A modest donation to the Phinney Fund will help support Rev. Eric Mason in his ministry as our Rector. Soul ReflectionsResumes Sunday, November 8 Have you ever wanted to share your reactions to something that stirred in you during the Sunday service? Perhaps it was a question the homily raised, an emotional response to the music, or something said during the Children’s Moment. It could even be the light streaming in the sanctuary. Soul Reflections is a new small group during which you can share your thoughts. A Grace member will facilitate each meeting. We will meet Sundays after the 9:30 service in the Wayfarers classroom. Hope you can come! |

Affordable Housing on Grace Land
UPDATE As you may remember, at the Grace Annual Meeting, we passed a resolution to “explore the feasibility of allowing affordable housing to be built on Grace land…” Here is an update on our progress: With the support of Rev. Eric and the Vestry, we have initiated a basic feasibility study to determine the capacity of our land to support affordable housing. We will have data and results to share with you before the end of the year. We will be meeting with the Diocesan Canon for Property to acquaint him with this project. We have determined that Grace has title to these 10 acres, as the Diocese of Olympia filed a quitclaim deed in 2011. We continue to track the progress of “Finch Green,” Bethany Lutheran’s affordable housing project being developed by Housing Resources Bainbridge. After 10 years of planning (and decades of dreaming), Finch Green will break ground this weekend! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions. — The Affordable Housing Team: Julie Shryock, Bill Hunt & Valerie Reinke |

You are Invited to be a Night Owl
To support keeping Grace safe and secure, we have a Night Owl team. Each team member volunteers for a week at a time to come to Grace, walk the exterior of the building, verify that all doors are locked and latched, all windows are closed and latched, and then close the gate. Team members arrive after 9 pm, or a bit later, after everyone involved in rentals or other Grace activities has left. This takes about 15-20 minutes. You'll receive a short orientation and then be ready to go. Your time would be a huge gift to Grace. If you want to jump right in, click here to read about the duties of the Night Owls and sign up for this ministry. Questions? Please contact:
