Earth & Spirit Conversation to Care for CreationThis Sunday, July 6, after coffee hour We’ve enjoyed wonderful conversations about our sacred natural systems, our place within them, and how we might transform our love into action. A question being asked is, “Should we take political action individually and/or as a church?” Join our caring circle as we consider this question. On Being: Mortality with Dr. Atul Gawande What makes a good day — even at the end of life? Surgeon and author Atul Gawande reflects on mortality, meaning, and how facing death can help us live more fully. EconTalk: Why Christianity Needs to Help Save Democracy Author Jonathan Rauch, a self-described gay atheist and “nice Jewish boy,” makes a bold and thoughtful case for why Christianity has a vital role in preserving democracy—and why it must embrace what he calls a “thicker” expression of faith. Learning How to See: Seeing Grace Fully Grace has the power to heal, transform, and shift how we see ourselves, others, and the divine. In this episode, Nadia Bolz-Weber joins Brian McLaren and Carmen Acevedo Butcher to explore how grace can become the lens through which we live. Knitting Into the MysteryJuly 24 at 11:00 a.m. Do you have any yarn hiding in your closets, cupboards, or drawers? The pastoral care team has a good use for it! Knitting Into the Mystery Returning to In-person Gatherings For nearly 20 years, a cadre of knitters at Grace has worked prayerfully and soulfully to create Prayer Shawls. The shawls are blessed by our priest and parish and are sent out into the world to fulfill their ministry of giving comfort and support. “Thank you…I did not want to be a recipient of a prayer shawl, and was reluctant at first to take it. But as soon as I put it on, I felt the warmth and power of the prayers that went into it. It has not left me since — I even sleep with it.” — Prayer Shawl Recipient Whether you are a seasoned knitter or a novice, you are welcome to join in Knitting Into the Mystery. Shawls will be created for marriages, births, illnesses, comforting, moving away to college, etc. How you can participate: Bring your unused, washable yarn to the collection box in the Narthex. Join us as we gather together to knit on fourth Thursdays at 11:00 a.m. starting July 24! Contact: Shannon Moore. |
