Cathedral DaySaturday, May 3 at St. Mark’s Cathedral, 10:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Advance registration requested If you have attended the Foundations Class and are seeking confirmation and have not signed up yet, please email Kim Cockroft and Eric Mason as soon as possible. Likewise, if you have family members coming with you to Cathedral Day and they would like lunch vouchers, please email Kim or Rev. Eric if you have not already done so. Cathedral Day is a “family reunion” for Episcopalians from across western Washington—a time for connecting across communities, experiencing your cathedral in a new light... and having a lot of fun. There’s something for everyone—no matter your age! A liturgy of Holy Eucharist with the rites of Confirmation, Reception, and Reaffirmation for candidates from parishes near and far will begin at 10:30 a.m., opening with a grand, colorful procession of parish banners. Following the service, all are invited to enjoy lunch from food trucks and participate in activities for all ages. (Food truck lunch is free with advance registration.) Afternoon activities include face painting, demonstration of the Mighty Flentrop, paper airplane launch from the organ loft, docent-led tour including the crypt, a walk through the Greenbelt, and more! Growing Grace Team Unveils New Welcoming Signage
To ensure that Grace Church is welcoming to all guests, the Growing Grace Team has proposed a comprehensive update of exterior signage to be installed during May. Included in the update will be colorful directional signs on Day Road and along the entry lane just past the Island School, an entry and exit sign at the gate that welcomes arriving visitors and wishes them Peace when departing, and a Church Hours sign to be affixed to the gate itself so it is visible when closed. Also planned are new signs for guest parking and upgraded signs for handicapped parking as well as new directional signs for the Grace Trails, Labyrinth, Columbarium, Memorial Garden, Office, and Bike Parking. In addition, the Bainbridge Island Park District will be installing additional signage along the Trails directing hikers to Grace Church, our Labyrinth, and our Memorial Garden. I would like to give special recognition to team member Rhonda Peacock, whose graphic design expertise made these signs possible. Participating in the Growing Grace Team has been enlightening and challenging as we collectively work to make Grace a more welcoming place. I encourage any member of Grace who is interested in helping with this initiative to speak with Jeff Bassett, Kim Cockroft, or Eric Mason for more information. — Mike Leamon, For the Growing Grace Team |
“Resettlement With Grace” Update
The RWG team has been very busy during the past two weeks. After many attempts to find housing in the Kent area for the Ahmadi family, we expanded our search. We visited the Redmond Ridge Apartments, a tax credit property with reduced rental rates. The property has everything an immigrant family will need: a helpful staff, two playgrounds and trails in the nearby woods, a top-rated elementary school one mile from the property, and a community of immigrants, all trying to make a better life for their family. The Ahmadi family successfully filled out an application and was accepted in one day thanks to Grace RWG co-sponsoring their rental costs for the family's six-month lease. Donations to offset the family's rent for these next few months will be greatly appreciated.* We will be helping the Ahmadis move this coming weekend (April 26 & 27) and will continue to provide assistance by registering the children in school, helping with medical appointments, and introducing them to the Muslim community support centers in Redmond. Thank you for the many offers of furniture, house supplies, and other donations. * Click here to donate online through Realm, or write a check to Grace Church with RWG in the memo line. Contact: Email Kathy Deasy or call (928) 606-3410. |

Submit news or event listingThe weekly deadline for submissions is Tuesday at noon. Before submitting an announcement for the eNews, please review these guidelines:Please limit your submission to 100 words. We may make edits to increase clarity, add consistency, or make space accommodations. We will be in touch with you if we have a question or concern. To accommodate the large volume of submissions we receive, we prefer not to run a single listing more than four weeks in a row. If your event has a long lead time, consider submitting a “Save the Date” notice followed by a second notice closer to the event. Priority is given to Grace events and to a limited number of nonprofit or community events. We don't publicize private or for-profit events. For more infomation visit:
