Let’s Celebrate and Rogate!THIS SUNDAY There will be so much to celebrate this Sunday! During the 9:30 a.m. service, we’ll witness the joyful Holy Union of Liz Shaw Powell and Don Rooks. Please stay for coffee hour afterward, when we’ll enjoy cake and a special celebration for Liz and Don. May 25 is also “Service Sunday.” On the 4th Sunday of each month, we highlight an outreach ministry that Grace supports. This month we will be celebrating the Gifts of Dirt Garden, which Grace started four years ago to grow produce for Helpline House. Immediately after coffee hour, you are invited to come to the garden for a dedication and blessing of this amazing ministry. We will also be celebrating Rogation Sunday. Anglicans in old England traditionally set this time aside to ask God for help and a blessing over their crops. Parishioners gathered and walked along the parish boundaries. Stopping at landmarks, the priest read from the Gospel and asked for God’s blessing on the crops. Rogation Day became a time for farmers to settle any boundary disputes and to resolve other interpersonal conflicts. Peace and love toward neighbors and showing mercy and justice to the poor was promoted. Over the years, Rogation Day has blossomed from a day to ask for God’s help and blessing over the fields to include celebrating the onset of spring and a peace and reconciliation day all in one. Now that’s something to celebrate! For more infomation visit:

“Resettlement With Grace”
Meeting the urgent needs of the Aziz Ahmadi family of six has been the first priority for RWG since their arrival March 18. The Sayed Hashimi family of seven (who arrived on January 21) has now entered a phase in their resettlement where RWG is again actively involved. The greatest need is employment for the father, Sayed. He has a bachelor’s degree and worked at Bagram Air Base for nine years as a translator. He has submitted many job applications over a range of business sectors — and has one upcoming interview. The two daughters (in 2nd and 4th grade) are quick learners and love school. Now that the twins are 10 weeks old, their mother Taiba, is enrolling in English classes. Last week, our Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe issued a statement when federal funding for refugee resettlement (which was terminated January 30) was reopened solely for a group of newly arrived Afrikaners. Episcopal Migration Ministries is therefore “ending our participation in the federal government’s refugee resettlement program and investing our resources in serving migrants in other ways.” Read Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe’s Letter on Episcopal Migration Ministries. A donation to RWG of any amount would be greatly appreciated, as integration into U.S. society continues for these two families. Click here to donate online through Realm, or write a check to Grace Church with RWG in the memo line. Contact: Email Kathy Deasy or call (928) 606-3410. |
